Nightingale Gardens

Nightingale Gardens of The Southerlands is dedicated to our residents in need of intensive assisted living.

Licensed clinical staff includes a team of LPN Nursing Supervisors who provide nursing coverage either on site or on call including weekends and holidays, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Staff monitors the residents continually for any changes in their condition or functioning that may require intervention.  Staff will notify the physician and family when changes are observed.  Physical therapy and occupational therapy is available on-site for those residents who have a need.

Medications are dispensed by Medication Aides who are trained to give medications and provide personal care to our residents.  We also have Clinical Nursing Assistants who provide care as well.  All clinical staff are required to have CPR and First Aid certification.  There is Medication Aide and Nursing Assistant coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Nightingale Gardens staff is dedicated to providing residents with activities that stimulate them mentally, physically, emotionally, culturally, spiritually, and creatively.  Families, friends, and staff are invited and encouraged to attend any of these programs throughout the day.

Each resident room has "emergency pull cords" located beside their bed and in their bathroom.  A light will turn on outside their room and a bell will ring at the Clinical Station.

The daily routine in the Nightingale Gardens revolves around the residents, their personal routines, and their needs.  Residents who enjoy coming to breakfast in their house coat to have a cup of coffee and read the paper are encouraged to maintain that routine.  Residents who prefer to "sleep in" can do so and enjoy a breakfast whenever they decide to begin their day.

Lunch is served at noon and some residents enjoy going to The Southerlands Café for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays for their meal, program and a change of scenery.  Some apartment residents also take advantage of the gatherings for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so there is an enjoyable opportunity for residents of all abilities to socialize.

Dinner in the Nightingale Gardens is served at 5pm and is generally a light meal.

Residents are provided the opportunity to maintain their bedtime routines whether they retire early or prefer to stay up late.  Those who wish to get up during the night are offered snacks or an activity that suits them or even one on one interaction with staff.

Overall, the Nightingale Gardens is as home-like as possible; not only in the way the dining and living areas are furnished and arranged, but also in the way the residents are encouraged to maintain their individuality and personal preferences and routines.
